Senior MacOS QA Engineer

About the opportunity

As the Senior macOS QA Engineer, you will be responsible for validating the stability, security, and compatibility of a secure macOS platform used to protect sensitive systems. This is a hands-on manual and exploratory QA role (not an automation role) that requires deep, practical experience with macOS internals, system extensions, and application behavior. You will work alongside a highly experienced team of engineers and reverse engineers to design and execute manual test plans that dig into system extensions, inter-process communication, and low-level operating system behavior.

If you thrive on identifying edge cases, love all things macOS, enjoy breaking complex systems in controlled ways, and have an investigative mindset for system behavior, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  1. Test macOS security features spanning system extensions, Endpoint Security, and Network Extension frameworks.
  1. Design and execute manual test plans for system extensions, inter-process communication (XPC), and low-level operating system integration points.
  1. Explore and document edge cases, race conditions, compatibility scenarios, and regressions across macOS versions.
  1. Reproduce and isolate complex issues related to sandboxing, SIP and TCC interactions, Launch Services, and daemon behaviors.
  1. Work directly with development, support, product, and automation teams to triage, verify, and regress bugs and compatibility issues.
  1. Validate interactions between the platform and third-party macOS apps and services.
  1. Collaborate with SDETs to turn exploratory and regression cases into automation candidates.
  1. Maintain close familiarity with changes in macOS releases and how they may impact functionality and compatibility.

Minimum requirements

  1. 5+ years of QA experience with macOS applications, with a focus on security, system-level, or compatibility testing.
  1. Strong understanding of macOS internals, including System Extensions, Endpoint Security, XPC, TCC, SIP, Launch Services, and file systems.
  1. Familiarity with macOS diagnostic and monitoring tools such as Console, Activity Monitor, Instruments, fs_usage, dtrace, tcpdump, and lldb.
  1. Experience testing low-level products such as VPNs, endpoint security tools, or antivirus software.
  1. Ability to read crash reports and debug logs and identify root causes.
  1. Ability to work independently and investigate issues thoroughly before escalating.
  1. Excellent written communication for clear test case documentation and bug reports.
  1. Availability to work during US Eastern Time (EST) business hours.

Compensation: $6,500 USD per month
