Mission

We are looking for a Principal Architect / Architecture Manager to lead the modernization and re-platforming of a legacy product, which has an obsolete architecture and strong restrictions on modularity and scalability, impacting the client's business objectives.

Your mission is to transform this product into a modern, flexible, and modular platform, service-oriented and with APIs, capable of being consumed as a service by other products, enabling its use as whitelabel and multi-tenant, and supporting growth at scale, high availability, and continuous evolution.

Important: If you reside in the Campinas Metropolitan Region, your presence in the city's offices will be mandatory, according to the current attendance policy.

At CI&T, inclusion starts at the first contact. If you are a person with a disability, it is important to present your medical report during the selection process. Check which data is necessary for the report by clicking here. This way, we can ensure the support and adaptations you deserve. If you don't have the characterizing report yet, don't worry: we can support you in obtaining it.

We have a dedicated Health and Well-being team, inclusion specialists, and affinity groups who will be with you at all stages. Count on us to go through this journey side by side.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Target Architecture & Platform: Define the target architecture of the new platform on AWS, including strategies for evolving the monolith to a modular and scalable solution (microservices/domain services, event-driven, APIs, etc.). Outline domains and bounded contexts, layers, components, as well as multi-tenancy and whitelabel models;
  1. Legacy Modernization Journey: Plan and lead the product modernization roadmap, defining decomposition strategies (strangler pattern, extraction patterns, progressive modularization) and coexistence/migration strategies between the legacy and the new platform;
  1. Architecture Governance: Establish principles, standards, guidelines, and guardrails for architecture. Conduct architecture reviews, approve critical solutions, ensure architectural documentation (ADRs, diagrams, catalogs), and guarantee continuous alignment with the architectural vision;
  1. Cloud Based Architecture: Ensure solutions maximize the use of AWS services, guaranteeing high availability, resilience, performance, and cost-efficiency (including FinOps practices);
  1. Engineering & Operational Excellence: Ensure the application of engineering best practices (12-factor, testing, CI/CD, automation, observability, SRE) and resilience (circuit breaker, timeout, retry, etc.), ensuring high technical quality, reliability, and platform operability;
  1. Technical Leadership & Architect Development: Provide technical direction, mentorship, and feedback to architects and tech leads. Structure architectural capacity (roles, responsibilities, processes) and raise the technical bar of the ecosystem;
  1. Partnership with Product, Business, and Stakeholders: Work closely with product, business, and technology leadership to translate strategic objectives into architectural decisions. Participate in discoveries, definition of non-functional requirements (SLOs, security, compliance), and clear communication of solutions to technical and non-technical audiences;
  1. Technical Risk Management & Evolvability: Identify architectural risks, propose mitigation strategies (technical, roadmap, experimentation), and ensure the platform is evolvable, supporting new use cases, integrations, business models, and growth at scale.

Minimum requirements

Requirements

  1. Solid experience in software engineering, acting as a Solutions/Systems Architect in complex contexts (multiple teams, multiple systems).
  1. Proven experience in modernizing legacy systems to distributed and modular architectures, including defining target architecture and migration roadmap, using decomposition patterns (e.g., strangler pattern, split by domain/subdomain, anti-corruption layer);
  1. Practical mastery of cloud-based architecture using AWS solutions, ensuring the applicability of high availability, resilience, scalability, and FinOps practices;
  1. Experience in designing service-oriented and APIs platforms, preferably with domain-driven design (DDD) architectures and exposing capabilities to other products, partners, and whitelabels;
  1. Experience in architecture governance, defining standards, principles, guidelines, and review processes;
  1. Experience in architecture forums and technical decision-making at the organizational level;
  1. Good practices in design, code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, and SRE;
  1. Knowledge of resilience techniques and tools (circuit breaker, timeout, retry, bulkhead, etc.);
  1. Experience in large-scale development environments: multiple teams, product squads, agile structures;
  1. Integration between product, engineering, operations, and security areas;

You will stand out if:

  1. Experience with B2B/B2B2C, whitelabel, or multi-tenant platforms, with challenges in isolation, configuration, and customization per client;
  1. Experience with FinOps or continuous cost optimization in AWS;
  1. Experience with event-driven architecture (event-driven, streaming, CDC, etc.);
  1. Experience with governance pipelines (e.g., architecture boards, tech radar, recurring design reviews);
  1. Experience in technical leadership of architects and tech leads, including mentorship, career development, and influence without formal authority.
  1. Ability to communicate complex solutions clearly to technical and non-technical audiences;
  1. Build trusting relationships with stakeholders from different areas;
  1. Influence strategic decisions based on data, risks, and architectural trade-offs.
